What is Eye Movement Integration (EMI) Therapy?
Eye Movement Integration (EMI) is a type of therapy that uses eye movements to help the person with mental health issues. It can help people process emotional experiences and resolve trauma, by helping them to be able to express themselves without feeling overwhelmed. The technique involves rhythmic, alternating movements of the eyes while focusing on an object or event.

How Does Eye Movement Integration Help with Mental Health Issues?
The main goal of EMI is to reset the nervous system by calming it down from three different areas: cognitive, emotional, and somatic. Eye movement helps in reducing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, among others. The combination of physical movement and the focus on a specific stimulus provides the person with a sense of calmness and allows them to move out of their mental loops or patterns that are preventing them from moving forward in life. In addition, EMI can help promote better sleep and improved concentration levels.

Where Did the Eye Movement Integration Approach Come From?
The eye movement integration approach was developed in the late 20th century  and is based on observations that when trauma victims move their eyes back and forth, there were changes in their emotional state which lead to relief from symptoms. The technique combines elements of psychotherapy and neuroscience and has been used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, addiction, phobias, depression, and other mental health issues. It is believed that EMI acts as an accelerator for this process, allowing the person to shift subconscious thoughts into conscious awareness more quickly. EMI is an advanced human change technology based on principles of neuroplasticity, which states that the brain can change and adapt over time as a result of practice and experience.

Who Should Seek Eye Movement Integration as a Treatment?
Eye Movement Integration (EMI) is a powerful treatment option for those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, phobias, addiction, and other mental health issues. Individuals who have experienced trauma or abuse in their past may benefit most from this therapy. EMI can also be helpful to those dealing with chronic illness or pain, as well as anyone who struggles to manage their own emotions. In addition, EMI can be a beneficial tool for couples and families looking to improve communication and problem-solve together.
