Reunification Therapy Services for Families

What is Reunification Therapy:

Reunification therapy is a type of therapy designed to help estranged family members, usually parents and children, reconnect and reconcile after a period of separation or alienation. The goal of reunification therapy is to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows the family members to communicate and work through any conflicts or issues that led to their separation. Typically, the therapist will work with each family member individually, as well as together as a group, to identify and address any underlying psychological, emotional, or behavioral factors that may be contributing to the family's difficulties. Reunification therapy can be a long and challenging process, but it can also be very rewarding for families who are able to successfully rebuild their relationships.

What Reunification Therapy Can Help With

Reunification therapy can assist with various issues, such as:

  • Establishing co-parenting boundaries - Co-parenting after a divorce or separation can be challenging, but reunification therapy can help parents communicate effectively to establish boundaries and routines that benefit their children.
  • Addressing estrangement - Estrangement, which occurs when family members become distant, may arise when a child harbors resentment or anger toward a parent during a divorce. Reunification therapy aims to address the child's feelings and heal the relationship between parent and child.
  • Dealing with alienation - Alienation, on the other hand, happens when a child aligns with one parent over the other due to a false belief that the alienated parent is harmful or dangerous. In such cases, reunification therapy seeks to help the child develop a more realistic view of the parent's character and behaviors, which leads to a healthier relationship.
  • Implementing safety planning - Finally, if a child was removed from the home due to unsafe behavior from either the parent or child, reunification therapy can assist in establishing and implementing appropriate safety precautions to prevent future problems.
